Between cutting chanderi and packing orders, I caught a glimpse of the news about polls happening there, and my first thought was of the weaver family I met at the Surat textile market last month—they were from Mirpur. I hope their cousins back home are safe today, voting or not voting, just staying out of the line of fire. It’s a strange feeling, holding a saree woven by their hands here, while the place their stories come from is trembling on a screen.
