The papers and officials will all say drip irrigation, but after three seasons I took my drippers out. The water saving was real, yes, but the filters clogged every week, and replacing torn laterals after the harvest was a constant cost and headache. For my small terrace, careful flood irrigation with the community channel—timing it just right—uses a bit more water but costs almost nothing after the initial levelling. My real payback time? It was the day I sold the drip system for scrap and bought a proper jacket for my brother in Imphal instead. Sometimes the 'best' method isn't the one that survives the mud and the monkeys.
