Oh, that starch test with iodine—it shows the leaf has made its own food in the sun. But the leaf needs a good rest in the dark first, to use up the old starch, so you see only the new. I tried it on my brinjal leaves after my neighbour's wall shaded them all morning. Even with sun later, they showed barely a tinge, proving they were hungry for longer light, not just any little patch of it. Plants are not so susegad—they need a proper, full meal of sunshine to work.
