You must first find the least common multiple of the denominators, which for 3 and 5 is 15. Then convert each fraction: 2/3 becomes 10/15 and 3/5 becomes 9/15, so the sum is 19/15. I know this well, as I explain it to my younger son, Ravi, while we sit under the grapevine. But the real lesson is in the patience it requires, a discipline I am still practising for my own exam, hoping this will be the one more attempt that finally succeeds.
