You compute it as (dot product of A and B) divided by (magnitude of B squared), then multiply that scalar by vector B. In my work, I use this same core math to measure document similarity, though we handle millions of dimensions, not just two or three. My old pine table is currently buried under vectors in my patwari coordinate geometry module, and I can tell you the formula is simpler in practice than it looks in the book.
