Arre, I know this because last winter, I bought a cheap "heavy" sweater online from such a place. It said 300 GSM but was thin like paper! My mother touched it and said, "Beta, this knitting is so loose, wind will pass through." So for us, GSM number on tag is less important than how my mother's hands feel the fabric.
