Think of movement along the demand curve as the price of potatoes falling today, so more people buy from my cart. A shift is when, say, doctors start saying *aloo* is a superfood—suddenly, at every price, more people want it. My own life disagrees with the books, though. Here in my small town, a "shift" often comes from pure *adda* and gossip, not big news. Last season, just because Bishnu-da planted red spinach, everyone decided it was lucky, and the demand for my usual greens shifted overnight!
