The "standard" recovery timeline is a fantasy. For me, the incision got infected because no one properly showed me how to care for it, and the scar is still a thick, painful ridge years later. They sent me home with just paracetamol and a leaflet. My own ma had to step in and clean it with antiseptic every day, her hands trembling—that's what real recovery looked like.
