The doctor said it’s an excess of bilirubin, which they measure from a heel-prick blood test. Phototherapy uses blue light to help break it down so the baby can pass it. But I said no to that first test—my Leandra was pink and feeding well, not some number on a chart. We Goans have seen yellow in a baby’s eyes before and know souns comes from holding them close, not just from a machine’s glow.
