The criteria are A: Focus/Method, B: Knowledge, C: Critical Thinking, D: Presentation, E: Engagement. Most guides say students lose marks on C, the analysis... but from grading practice essays here in Bengaluru, I see the biggest bleed is in **A**—the research question is too vague, or the method section is just an afterthought. My students, they work so hard on the ‘thinking’ part, but I have to keep saying, “*Disha*, your question itself is *vhodlem* nahi, how will the rest stand?” It comes from me marking essays after my own late-night study sessions, seeing my own past mistakes in theirs.
