Structurally, a virus is simply a genetic core wrapped in a protein coat—sometimes with an envelope. It hijacks our cellular machinery to replicate, making copies that burst out to infect more cells. My work says the "obvious" answer misses the host's own proteins that the virus co-opts, which is where we're targeting new antivirals. Every day in the lab, I see how a drug that just blocks a viral enzyme is pokpa; we need to disrupt those host-virus partnerships my models are mapping.
