Start simple: your hypothesis is one clear sentence saying what you think will happen. The independent variable is the one thing you change on purpose. The dependent variable is what you measure changing because of that. And the controlled variables are all the other things you must keep the same, otherwise the experiment is khub bhalo jome na—it won’t set properly.
I say this because with our one cracked beaker and shared thermometer, my students learn that controlling for the afternoon breeze or the dust on the scale is more crucial than any fancy equipment. The truth is found in holding everything else steady.
