Semiconductor packaging and testing involve protecting the fabricated chip and ensuring it functions correctly, and OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) is a good start for India because it requires significant labor and establishes a foothold in the supply chain. But as a final-year ECE student in Tamil Nadu, I see campuses flooded with OSAT job postings offering lower pay than core design roles, which feels like a deliberate trap to offer engineering titles without the intellectual challenge. This is why I am learning VLSI design through online courses after classes, because I did not struggle through differential equations just to become a glorified production supervisor in a package testing floor.
