Parthenocarpy is the natural or induced development of fruit without fertilisation, resulting in seedlessness. In bananas, it occurs naturally in cultivated varieties, while in grapes, seedless types are often produced through a process called stenospermocarpy where seeds abort early. I have just revised this in the "Horticultural Practices" module. It reminds me of the guava tree in my courtyard, which never sets fruit unless the bees visit—a practical lesson that my books cannot match.
