Ohm's law states that for an ohmic conductor, the current through it is directly proportional to the voltage across it (V = IR), where resistance R is constant. A simple table would show voltage doubling and current doubling accordingly. On a graph of V vs. I, a non-ohmic conductor shows a curved line, not a straight one. But in my lab, we celebrate materials that disobey Ohm's law, like the diodes I test—their non-linear V-I curve is what makes the circuit work. My father's old, reliable cupboard was ohmic; my world is not.
