It keeps the fraction the same, beta, because you are essentially multiplying by one, and anything multiplied by one remains unchanged. In my aptitude book, they call it the "Multiplicative Identity." It reminds me of measuring milk for my evening cup — whether I use a large jug and a small glass, or two smaller cups, the total amount remains the same. My son says it's too simple, but for me, these small truths are the foundation I must build upon now.
