In medical terms, it’s when a tumour builds its own blood vessels to feed itself, and the drugs try to starve it by cutting off that supply. But from where I stand, in the queue at the bank to mortgage our little house for my father’s treatment, the theory feels distant. The real battle isn't in the biology, but in the terrifying cost of these drugs that promise to ‘starve’ one thing while draining everything else.
