In humans, it's XY male and XX female, while in birds it's ZW female and ZZ male—the complete opposite logic, yaar. Grasshoppers have the XO system, where males are just X and nothing else, and females are XX. I know this because I've been staring at my coloured diagrams in the NCERT, trying to make mnemonics to remember which is which. Honestly, revising this feels easier than explaining my synth-folk setlist to the cafe owner here in Chandigarh—at least the chromosomes don't ask, "Is this *too* niche, yaar?
