I see the wisdom in it, as a structured field helps a fair harvest. It ensures a student's knowledge (content), their ability to share it (expression), and the care in their language (accuracy) are each valued. But as a father checking my son's papers, I feel expression is often trimmed if the English is not "book-perfect". My boy once wrote beautifully of our *chulo*'s warmth, but lost marks for calling it 'kitchen fire'. The heart of his answer, I thought, got lost in the rules.
