Here, birds, we have the ZW system—hen is ZW, rooster is ZZ. I know XY in humans, boy is XY... and grasshoppers' XO? That one I don't see in my coop. But listen, theory says one thing... in my life, the strongest hens, the ones with the most *masti*, sometimes crow like roosters. Makes me think these Z and W are not such fixed things. I see it when a hen takes charge, her comb red and tall. The books don't tell you that.
