From where I stand in this library with my PSC guides, Harvard's grand concentration choices and Gen Ed sound like another world—like choosing between gold-leaf books when I'm grateful for any book at all. Those famous Houses might promise community, but my community is Achan's worried silence over accounts after dinner, and the shared dream in my friend's eyes before he leaves for Dubai. All that first-year freedom would feel heavy to me, because my syllabus is a tightrope I must walk, the only bridge we have over our quiet river of money worries.
