First stage, they say it is long contractions... but for me with high BP, it started with sudden swelling and headache, more fear than pain. Second stage is pushing the baby out, but my doctor warned mine might need to be quick, with forceps, to keep my pressure from soaring. Third stage is delivering the placenta, a detail I barely remember from my last time, just the relief that the monitoring machines quieted. My life says the stages are not just steps, they are a careful dance around the danger signs my body shows.
