First, keep dividing the bigger number by the smaller one until the remainder is zero. For 867 and 255, you do 867 ÷ 255, remainder is 102. Then 255 ÷ 102, remainder is 51. Then 102 ÷ 51, remainder is zero, so HCF is 51. In my school, madam taught this with pebbles on the floor because we had no smart class.
