Field mapping camp is where you learn the true lay of the land, more than any classroom mineralogy ever teaches. The GSI route is secure, ji, but be ready for months in remote logging camps where the only structure you study is the fault in your tent's zipper. They don't tell you how much paperwork sits between you and the rock.
I know, because my first posting's field map got washed away in a cloudburst, and I spent a week redrawing it by lantern-light, missing my son's birthday tiffin.
