Beta, if you fail a subject, your transcript will show the 'F' and your GPA will take a hit—they might put you on academic warning, asking for improvement. You can repeat the course, and a term off is also possible. But from where I stand, paying every rupee from my Patna earnings, failing is a luxury we cannot afford. Every book I cannot buy for myself, every extra hour soldering, is for that one MIT semester. So my advice is, don’t plan for the fall-back; plan to not need it.
