Batteries are cheaper for my chawl's rooftop solar, where we have no mountains for pumped hydro. But the monsoon damp ruins them in three years, while I imagine a lake on a hill would last generations. This I know from replacing inverter batteries too often, yet trusting the Western Ghats' rivers to outlive us all.
