My own life is proof: when I repair a phone, I note down the voltage readings and cost of parts in my simple notebook. That's what gets the job done.
I think we focus so much on *getting* the result that the detailed "how sure are you?" part gets missed. Maybe that's why I always double-check my soldering with a second look, bas.
