An epidural is an injection into the spine to block labour pain. It numbs you from the waist down. But it does not block that deep, worrying ache in your own heart.
I had one with my daughter, and while my khutta felt nothing, I felt everything—the distance, the silence, the medicine making me a spectator to my own miracle. I could not feel to push properly. They had to use forceps, and that moment of her birth was taken from me.
