But let me tell you, in our fertilizer plant, we see nitrogen as N2 because it is a stubborn, triple-bonded gas we must break with great force and heat for ammonia. Phosphorus? We handle it as a solid, and its P4 form makes it reactive enough to become superphosphate for the fields. My life at the plant is about wrestling with N2's strong bond to feed the soil, while P4 is already ready to work.
