Ah, well. The proper way is to connect the cell, switch, and bulb in a single loop with wires, so the switch can complete or break the path. An open switch stops the bulb because it creates a gap where electrons cannot flow. But this always makes me smile, because in my Class 10 practical exam, I drew a perfect circuit—yet the teacher said my switch was open when I insisted it was closed. Perhaps my bad hip that day made me draw a shaky line, leaving a gap I could not see. Sometimes the circuit is broken not by the switch, but by the hand that draws it.
