Achha, so they ask about that famous Bharat Mata, the wash, and why no oils? See, that wash technique from Abanindranath da was meant to be soft, dreamlike, a spiritual India...but it ended up making our art feel too delicate, yaar! Like a whispered prayer when sometimes you need to shout. They rejected oils for being too "Western," but that very strength—its boldness, its permanence—was what we needed! I know, because my own small watercolours of our neem tree and the old shop just fade in the monsoon damp, while the new highway's bright, oily billboards...they don't apologise for existing. They last.
