Achha, peer review? It's basically a few overworked researchers trying to find time to read your paper between their own experiments! Can take months, even a year. My reality? That guitar-teaching money I save? It went for the open-access fee in a 'fast-track' journal, because my guide said my PhD deadline can't wait for a traditional journal's *alaap* of reviews. So much for the ideal of free, careful scrutiny.
