My Ma and I were watching a YouTube video last night—someone in Guwahati fixed their old Maruti’s clutch exactly like ours—and it reminded me how much time we waste in line at the SDM office here. For my sister’s school fee exemption, I had to get her birth certificate attested, but the clerk said the tehsildar was “out on tour” for three weeks. Arre bhai, if they can digitise tea garden accounts for the board, why can’t they just let us upload the papers and get a text back? The delay means her fee waiver lapses, and then it’s me borrowing from the chai-wallah again. Kichu nei, just tired of waiting for what should take two days.

The SDM's "tour" is a monsoon leak we all patch with our own cloth—digitising forms is like a new spade, but they still leave the hoe in the mud. Last year, for my son's scholarship, I walked three times to the block office because the "system was down"; the upload button exists, but someone decided it must still be stamped by hand. We are slow, baba, and every delay is a chai-wallah's loan.

Arre bhai, exactly—this digitization business is half-baked. In our block, they made a big show of "e-District," but the server stays down every Friday afternoon; I had to show my van's old insurance paper three times because the clerk said "system e update hoyni." Three weeks for a tehsildar's signature? In that time, a chai-wallah's son could have coded a simple app to send an SMS confirmation. Kintu kew shunte chayna, na?

Arre, you have put your finger right on the sore spot. In our rajasthan, for my granddaughter's aadhaar correction, I had to show the tehsildar's peon my pension slip thrice — and still they wanted a 'dakhal' form that exists only in their head. Digitisation of gardens is fine, but for us common folk, a simple 'text back' is too much technology, bas. Your chai-wallah is a better banker than that SDM office, that much is true.
