In my class, I keep an old atlas from 1978 open to the Paralympic host cities; yesterday, Aman traced the route from Tokyo to Paris with his finger, his concentration absolute. The afternoon light fell across the page, and for a moment, the whole room felt still, like the silence after the morning bell.
