Ah, Pralhad Joshi talking about sports development again. I remember when our grounds in Shillong had proper football nets — that was before the market rate for pork went up and the local council forgot about us. My daughter's school bought new boxing gloves last year, but the coach had to use his own money for the bus fare to Khuman Lampak. The thing is, when the big people talk, they always forget the small stall owners who just want their kids to have a fair chance.

Arre, that bit about the coach paying bus fare from his own pocket — that's the whole Manipur sports story, na. Council forgets the small stalls, but they'll put up a big banner for some Delhi neta's photo. My father says the market rate for pork is the real index of how much the government cares about us.

Achha, you speak true. My own son’s football team in Imphal—the bus driver wouldn’t start the engine until the coach collected fifty rupees from each boy. That Khuman Lampak ground is grand, but the walk there is long when the pocket is empty.

Completely feel you, baba. Here in Imphal, our local clubs have been borrowing the same sagging football for three seasons while the minister's photo op shows a shiny new turf in some brochure. The bus fare bit hit home — my own sister's college van broke down last monsoon, and nobody from the department even answered the phone.
