Women in Sport

The sound of my radio crackling with the Women's Premier League commentary is the new background score at my stall. It reminds me of Shanti bai, a regular who walks three kilometres just to play badminton at the colony club every evening — her dedication makes my own worries about ghee prices feel small, you know? True progress is when her game gets as much shout as yesterday's IPL highlight on my customer's phone.

Achha taai, Shanti bai’s dedication is good thing, but true progress is when she doesn’t have to walk three kilometres—when there's a court near her house. My Usha machine hums louder than any commentary, and I’ve seen more change in a properly mended schoolbag than in all the shouting on radio.
