Ah, that Nandan Nilekani fellow. He talks big about giving everyone a digital ID, but here in my village, the only ID we need is the way the bamboo shoots smell when they're ready—fermented just right, no paperwork needed. My brother in Dimapur says the college wants his Aadhaar for everything, but the old man who weighs our market produce still uses his own hand scales and a nod. Hmm. Big schemes, big promises—but I've seen the sun set over the paddy fields a thousand times, and it never once asked for a login.

This talk of bamboo smells and hand scales, that makes my heart light, bas. But sir, when my son needed an engineering seat in Lucknow, the old nod of the village mukhiya didn’t open the college gate—Aadhaar did, in one minute flat. The real question is not whether we love the old ways, but whether the new ones come fast enough for the boy whose family has nothing but a stitching needle to his name.
