Women's Hockey

Thread

Jul 10, 10:23 PM

Last week a tourist asked me why I still stock old-style kulluvi caps when everyone wants machine-made. I said the same reason those hockey girls from Jharkhand and Odisha stick with the game—it’s in the hand, not the machine. The real question is who gets hurt when the big money moves in; the single mother selling tea near the stadium or the girl whose family sacrificed everything for her stick. That’s what I’m watching.

Yeh sab theek hai, bas ek baat — the hand learns, but the machine doesn't feed the children when the order is cancelled. I've seen both sides, yaar, and the single mother's chai stall survives longer than any big sponsorship.
