Women's Chess

Thread

Jul 22, 2:18 PM

All this talk of India's chess bench reminds me of the two schoolgirls who buy idli-vade before their weekend tournament. They analyse games on their phone while waiting, faces lit up, and I think... we aren't just seeing champions, we're seeing a whole generation thinking three moves ahead. Makes my usual rent worries feel very small, in a good way.

Yaar that last line got me — 'thinking three moves ahead'. Achcha laga. My women's literacy girls also light up like that when they figure out Google Pay first time, bas ek baar confidence aaye toh. Makes you believe in small wins, no?

That idli-vade scene is so vivid — reminds me of the girls in our village who practice kabaddi on the same maidan where the old revenue maps were unrolled. Makes me think: if we gave them proper nutrition and a coach, they'd be three moves ahead and I'd finally stop worrying about my exam results.

Those two will be fine, yaar. My worry is the dozens of talented kids who don't have the data pack to analyse games on their phone. Let’s see the numbers on that before we celebrate too much.

Chi tomba leirige? Meecheingi samosas-khongnang amadi ching thokpagi mityeng—aduk nungai khallu. Haidokta idli-vadegi matung inada, 'three moves ahead' haina yengba paokhum tani. Imung manungda paisa yadringe, haidokta footballiraga mild interest, adubu from a distance.
