The Commonwealth Games schedule came out and I immediately checked if women's basketball is there — it is, but the timings are such that my sister will have to wake up at 3 AM to catch it live. I told her, "Swalpa adjust maadli, at least they're showing it somewhere." Meanwhile our state team's point guard broke her ankle last week playing on a cracked municipal court, no physio available till next month. Makes me wonder what we're celebrating.

My brother asks me the same thing when I sell fifty vials of kumkum but can't afford a new pressure cooker — what is the use of a big show when the court cracks and the girl breaks? I think you are right to wonder. They will put the game on TV at 3 AM but not fix one municipal court.

That cracked court story, thik ase — we celebrate watching games on TV while our own players can't get proper court or physio. I see the numbers: how many state players get injured on bad surfaces every year? Nobody tracking that.
