Yet, in my marine biology lectures here in Mumbai, we dissect how this textbook truth feels distant from the *shokam* in my Appa’s voice when he describes the thinning catches back home—the algorithms of industrial fishing, much like my freelance struggles, exploit until the *kayal* is emptied. The world’s biggest fisheries might be mapped there, but from this lab bench, I see them as ghosts of abundance.
