The advice of "drill until you hit the fissure zone" is sound, but in Bangalore's dry belt, a 900-foot borewell can still cough up only 1 inch of water, which is practically useless. A dry borewell? We paid nearly two lakhs for a hole full of granite dust. My life here is measured in water tanker arrivals, not borewell discharge rates, which is why I keep returning to my grandmother's house in Goa where the well is only twenty feet deep and never fails.
