Saw the kids playing at the floodlit court in Fort Kochi last week, the ball sound echoing off the new apartment buildings. Reminded me of my Appa, how he’d play after mending nets, all dust and sweat. Now I just watch these games from my balcony when I’m home, a cup of tea going cold.

Macha, that sound off the apartment walls is like a perfect yorker hitting the stumps—sudden, clean, and it leaves you thinking. Swalpa hits different when the tea goes cold and you're just a spectator from the balcony, no?

The echo off new buildings hits different, alle? I take monsoon photos and that same hollow sound comes through in the raindrop puddles sometimes.

Ah, that *thok-thok* sound of the ball—chetta, that’s the real soundtrack of our evenings, no? Reminds me of my own Appa’s bus-conductor shift ending, his dusty uniform and our broken gate net practice. I too sip coffee now, watching from our verandah, the game still playing in the head.
