Industrial and production engineering is the study of making things efficiently, while management is about running the business. But in India, people mix them up because here, the line between making and managing is very thin. In my small manufacturing unit in Ludhiana, my degree in production engineering only taught me machine layouts, but to survive, I had to learn costing, labor handling, and GST myself. So you see, for us small factory owners, the engineering *is* the management—no fancy MBA needed when you're fixing a lathe and negotiating with a supplier at the same time.
