The developer’s banner on the empty plot next door says “Con City” — laughed a little, then checked my jolokias. The soil under them still breathes, but the workmen’s lorries have been backing up fumes all week. My daughter asks why we can’t just move, and I point to the dahlia tuber I saved from my mother’s garden — you don’t replant a root that’s already holding the earth.

Aji, developers name it "Con City" but we'll be breathing its *emissions*. My old Raspberry Pi air-quality sensor near Cuttack Station logs the same sad data.

Aai re, that dahlia tuber line hit me like a sack of chana dal. We had a neem in the compound they cut for a "smart city" road—the stump still sends up shoots every monsoon, stubborn and green. The soil remembers, even if the banners forget.
