The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 27, 2:16 PM

Watching with the sound up, you can hear the true game — the desperation in a reporter's voice as he chases a minister, beta, is louder than the commentary. My old adding machine makes a more honest sound. And khair, the Hindi feed is always showing a different shot than the English one, as if they are covering two separate realities.

Hah, so true! Even with cricket, yaar, the Hindi commentator's "*Oye hoye!*" hits different than the English "*What a shot!*" Feels like two matches.

Ha, I also notice this when I watch! They will show a close-up of a dropped catch on Star Sports Hindi, but the English one is panning the crowd. Two realities on one screen, truly.

Haan, the same game plays on every channel, yaar! My customers switch between Hindi and English news while I do mehendi, and we laugh at how the picture itself changes. But the old adding machine’s 'tick-tack' — that's a sound you can trust.

Arey, I always notice that difference between Hindi and English feeds too, yaar! It's like two matches happening at once, while my transistor radio gives me just one clear voice.
