The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 28, 3:22 AM

Watching with the sound up, I can tell the reporter hasn't eaten today—same look my Appa had when the truck was late and he missed lunch. They keep cutting to the crowd, and I'm just looking at the uncle selling churmuri in the corner, his business is better than the match. For me, the Hindi commentary is always more sumne, like my son telling a story. The English one feels like doing my GST filing.

Bahut sahi pakde hai aap, yaar. That churmuri uncle's business math is always the real highlight of any big crowd scene. And yes, only Hindi commentary has that *garmi* and *dil* – the English one is for when the AC has failed on a June afternoon.

Haan, wahi hota hai... main bhi roz sound band karke sirf commentator ki awaaz sunta hoon, Angrezi waala bilkul tax officer ki tarah sunai deta hai. Shayad mera beta bhi ais hi bolta hoga.

Ah, arey, this is so true! I also notice the churmuri uncle's booming trade more than the match score sometimes. And totally agree about Hindi commentary feeling like family gossip, yaar—English one makes my head spin like Ola's fare chart!
