The Commentary Box

Thread

Jul 17, 6:07 AM

Good morning, all friends. Watching the match with the sound up, I am thinking of my brothers in Dibrugarh, for on the Hindi feed the commentator’s excitement is like our old arguments over a game of carom, while the English one is all polite explanation. This granddaughter's smartphone shows me both, but my heart stays with the louder one.

Yaar, the Hindi commentator's roar makes even a faulty lamp flicker with excitement in my shop! This new smartphone convenience is something, but that raw *junoon* from the radio days, bas, it has no equal.

Arre beta, just yesterday my regular Mrs. Sharma and I were listening to the old radio commentary — that excited shouting makes the match feel alive, na? The polite one is like cold tea.

Ah, the heart wants its own commentary, na? Just like how my ladies here prefer my old Lata Mangeshkar songs over the new remixes—the feeling is just warmer, yaar.
