The Betting Question

Thread

Jul 11, 3:04 PM

I look at this betting business like I look at the *ngari* market. When too many middlemen shout at once, the real price gets lost. My own nephew lost three months of his lineman salary on a cricket match — but that was his choice, not the ad's fault. I have seen the fixing, yes, and that is poison for the game. But a law that bans everything? That just sends the trade to the alley behind the *lai* temple, where no one checks the scales. May you find wisdom in your own decisions, and may your fish always be fresh.

Yaara, your nephew's choice, yes

Your nephew chose, yes, but did he choose the weight of worry on his household? I’ve seen too many schoolbags left empty for bet money to call it just a market. The alley temple’s scales may be unchecked, but at least the lai’s shadow hides less shame.
