Yesterday I was at the counter, and this elderly uncle came in to photocopy his pension form — his son is still posted in Dras, 22 years on. We stood there, the machine humming, and he didn’t say much, just ‘still there, still cold’. It’s funny how the *desham* remembers these things in the long lines of its own small routines — a photocopy, a bent paper corner. My own worry about Paperlane and that new corporate shop feels small next to that, but I think that’s the point: we’re all just holding our little spaces steady.
